HISTORICAL NOTE ON THE CHILDREN'S CHAIRS IN OUR NURSERY

An announcement was made recently that new chairs will be purchased for the children to use in the nursery. Some of those presently in use have been there for a very long time. In going through a copy of trustee minutes, it was recorded that in 1927, the church voted to obtain chairs for "the primary department." Purchased were 6 yellow (light stain) chairs and 1 white chair which was for a long time known as the "birthday" chair. Total cost for the 7 chairs was $8.70. It may be of interest that those chairs would have been purchased just the year before your writer began attending Donegal Sunday School. In the spring of 1928 my family moved to what is now the Breneman farm (at that time a Cameron farm). Mrs. Amos (Minnie) Gish was a friend of my mother, and also organist and a Sunday School teacher at Donegal. She said "I am going to stop and take your children along to Sunday School." This child has been there ever since! A picture was taken in 1929 of the "primary" class of 8 children including me and my 3 brothers and Mrs. Gish. Some of us were sitting on those chairs which were taken outside the church for the picture taking. I might add that perhaps there are children you know who have had no Sunday School experience. They should be invited to come, and it is possible other lifetime commitments could result.

Mary Karnes.
